End-of-Year Corporate Party Catering in Nairobi
By Arvin Maushe
The end-of-year party is the one company event everybody actually turns up to. It is also the one most teams start organising too late. In Nairobi, the first two weeks of December are the busiest fortnight in the entire events calendar — venues, caterers and staff all get committed early, and the companies that wait until late November end up choosing from whatever is left. This guide covers what to serve, which format suits your space, and the timeline that keeps your options open.

Why December Books Out in October
Two things collide in December. Companies hold their staff parties, and it is peak wedding season. The same caterers, venues and service teams are being booked for both, in the same three-week window.
The practical effect is that your date, not your budget, becomes the constraint. A company confirming in mid-October has the full calendar to choose from. One calling in the last week of November is choosing between leftovers, usually on a weekday rather than the Friday they wanted. If your finance team sets budgets in October, that is the moment to pin the date, even if the headcount is still an estimate.
Three Formats That Work for a Nairobi Office Party
The format matters more than the menu, because it decides how people move around the room and how long the event runs.
- Finger foods and cocktail style — the right call when people will be standing, mingling and there are speeches. No seating plan needed, it works in an open-plan office with the desks pushed back, and it suits an evening that starts at five and runs to eight. Samosas, barbecue wings, skewers, pastries and fruit all travel well around a room.
- Buffet — the most common choice, and the best value per head. Guests choose their own portions, it scales comfortably past 200, and it handles mixed dietary requirements without a separate menu. Needs enough space for a serving line and a sensible queue route.
- Seated and plated — more formal, and the choice when there is an awards segment or a managing director speaking to a seated room. It needs more staff on the floor and a confirmed headcount, so it works best under about 120 guests.
What to Serve
A staff party menu has a harder job than a wedding menu: it has to please a room of people with completely different tastes, some of whom are eating in a hurry before they leave for the coast. The mix that consistently works is one familiar centrepiece, one thing people consider a treat, and enough variety that nobody is stuck.
Dishes that do well at Nairobi corporate parties:
- Mains — grilled chicken, barbecue wings, beef stroganoff, roasted or fried goat
- Sides — biryani rice, vegetable rice, lyonnaise potatoes, chapati, naan
- Lighter and vegetarian — seasonal vegetable medleys, creamed spinach, salads and kachumbari
- Bites and dessert — samosas, mahamri, custard cake, watermelon and pineapple
We do not work from fixed packages, so none of this is a set list. Tell us the room, the headcount and the tone of the evening, and we build the menu around it. If there is a dish your team asks for every year, tell us and we will work it in.
Office Floor or External Venue?
Catering into your own office is usually cheaper and much easier to organise, but it has constraints worth planning around rather than discovering on the night.
Most office buildings in Westlands need visitor sign-in, and some need the loading bay or goods lift booked by the tenant. Traffic on Waiyaki Way and Ring Road can add forty minutes with no warning, which is why we build the delivery window backwards from your start time with that margin already in it. For an evening event that means we are usually setting up while the last meetings of the day are still running — quietly, and without turning it into an event of its own.
External venues remove the building constraints and add others. Many garden and rooftop venues have no kitchen at all, which is not a problem — we bring the complete service setup with us — but it does need a conversation about power, water and a shaded prep area before the day.
Headcount, Timing and the Things People Forget
- Give an estimate early, confirm later. We would rather hold a date against an estimate of 80 and adjust to 95 than wait for a final number that arrives in December.
- Tell us when the speeches are.Food arriving in the middle of the managing director's address is a timing problem, not a catering problem, and it is entirely avoidable.
- Count the people who are not staff. Partners, clients and the drivers waiting outside are the most common reason a headcount is wrong on the night.
- Dietary requirements come with the headcount. Halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergen needs are part of the brief, and we label dishes at the buffet so nobody has to ask.
- Beverages vary by event. Some companies handle drinks themselves, others want them included — tell us which and we will advise.
What Is Included
Serving staff, cutlery, crockery and the full serving setup come as standard with every booking. They are never a separate line on the quote.
We provide food, staff and cutlery. Tents, chairs, furniture and décor come from a hire supplier, and we coordinate with whoever you use.
How to Lock a December Date
Send us the date, an estimated guest count, the venue and the format you have in mind. We come back with a menu and a fixed figure rather than a moving estimate, and a deposit is what reserves the date. The whole exchange usually takes a day.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should we book our end-of-year party?
October and November. Most Nairobi companies hold their party in the first two weeks of December, so those dates go first. Booking early also means the full menu is open to you rather than whatever is still available.
Can you cater inside our office?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Tell us the building and floor at quote stage so we can plan lift access, parking and the loading window properly.
How many guests can you cater for?
From 20 to 5,000 and above. Guest count changes the menu and the staffing, not whether we can take the booking.
Are serving staff and cutlery included?
Yes, always. Serving staff, cutlery, crockery and the full serving setup are part of every booking and are never quoted as extras.
Do you provide tents, chairs or décor?
No. We provide food, serving staff and cutlery. Tents, furniture and décor come from a separate hire supplier, and we work alongside whoever you use.
Can you handle dietary requirements?
Yes — halal, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergen requirements. Send them with your headcount and we will build them into the menu and label the dishes on the day.
How do we get a quote?
Send us your date, guest count, venue and the format you have in mind. We build the menu around that and come back with a fixed figure.
